About Kathy

Kathy grew up in Louisiana and went to Springhill High School in Webster Parish. She graduated from LSU with a degree in English, minoring in social sciences.

As a Christian, she believes in the Biblical view of marriage, and the right of parents to make final decisions regarding their children's education.

She has four children and six grandchildren. Since 1982, when her son Zachry was born with Down syndrome, Kathy has advocated for parents and their children with special needs.  She has worked in Ascension Parish Schools since 1994 as a liaison between families and schools. 

At the state level, she has served on numerous boards, commissions, and task forces related to education. These include:
  • Children's Cabinet Advisory Board
  • Special Education Advisory Board to BESE
  • Department of Education Task Force for Alternate Diploma


She currently serves on the following:
  • ADHD Task Force
  • Board of Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge
  • Regional and Parish Boards for Children's Mental Health
  • Coordinated System of Care (CSOC) Governance Board
